Yes! Choirs are especially helpful in this respect as they allow you to maintain a low profile at the same time as providing a platform to develop skills and confidence until you are ready to step into the light.
Absolutely not! Many of the benefits of singing are relevant at every stage of life although the older we get, the more important it becomes to regularly exercise core muscles and maintain good respiration (aka breathing). For those at risk of memory loss, the act of singing is widely accepted to be one of the best preventative medicines available.
Short answer is no. Group singing is like an impressionist or Australian Indigenous artwork, made up of many small parts of different size and colour that alone might be unremarkable. Together, these voices of different size and timbre (that’s colour of tone) can make something truly breathtaking!
